Explore the historic quarter of Borca di Cadore with its dwellings which have been declared historic monuments by the Veneto Regional Authorities, the Cibiana murales painted by famous Italian and international artists, the small mountain churches of Cadore, the typical hay lofts (toulĂ ) in Vodo di Cadore, the museum in Pieve di Cadore amd the Tiziano house, the site of the prehistoric grave of the Mondeval Man (5000 B.C) whose remains are conserved in the Museum in San Vito di Cadore, the old military route from the First World War leading from the front lines to the rear and the fort, the old Dolomites railway which you can walk or cycle along.
Church of Our Lady of Cadore. On the grounds of the Corte delle Dolomiti Resort a gem of sacred architecture designed by Edoardo Gellner with the collaboration of the great Carlo Scarpa: the first church in the world constructed with its altar “versus populum” (facing the faithful). The marked vertical slant emphasises the symbolic and religious importance of elevation. A pale light is diffused throughout the church and the lower side naves afford an ample view over the splendour of the surrounding environment. |
